Nirupam links Nagpur violence to Bangladesh connections
Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam has claimed that the recent violence in Nagpur is connected to individuals from Bangladesh. He stated this at a press conference held in Mumbai on Sunday. The violence occurred on March 17 and was sparked by rumors regarding the burning of a religious 'chadar' during a protest. The clashes caused injuries to 33 police officers, including three of high rank. Nirupam described the violence as "pre-meditated" and linked it to a protest by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, which called for the removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb's tomb. At the conference, Nirupam questioned whether the opposition party, Shiv Sena (UBT), was supporting groups involved in what he referred to as “Mujahideen activities.” He criticized Uddhav Thackeray's faction for being "anti-Hindu" and expressed concern about their alignment with these groups. In response to these allegations, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that it is too early to comment on any possible foreign connections while investigations are still in progress. He confirmed that authorities have identified 104 individuals through CCTV and video analysis, with legal action underway against 92 of them, including minors.
