Nintendo reveals plans for Virtual Console on Switch were scrapped
Nintendo initially planned to introduce a Virtual Console for the Switch, codenamed "Clipper," starting development in 2015. This version would have allowed players to access classic games with unique features, including CRT mode animations. However, by May 2017, the project was canceled. Nintendo shifted focus to "L-Classics," which led to the current Nintendo Switch Online service. This change aimed to provide multiple titles quickly and at a lower cost, addressing previous player frustrations. The decision was influenced by the high costs of testing individual emulators for each platform and complaints about the unavailability of past titles at launch.
