Nigerian telcos help travelers keep SIMs active
Nigerians traveling abroad can now keep their SIM cards active and avoid potential fraud by using retention plans offered by MTN, Glo, and 9Mobile. These plans prevent number recycling. These telecom providers offer services to maintain SIM numbers for up to three years, preventing deactivation due to inactivity. Subscribers can pay a fee to keep their numbers active, protecting against identity theft and financial risks. The Nigerian Communications Commission allows recycling inactive SIMs, making these retention plans crucial for those living abroad. The Central Bank of Nigeria also encourages local SIM card production to boost the economy.
