Nigerian billionaire buys Panama Canal Ports for $23 billion
Nigerian billionaire Adebayo Ogunlesi's company, Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), has acquired the Panama Canal Ports for $23 billion. This deal includes a partnership with TIL and follows the sale of shares by Hong Kong-based CK Hutchison Holdings. The acquisition gives GIP control over 43 ports in 23 countries, including key locations in Panama, Mexico, and Australia. This marks a significant expansion for GIP, which is a subsidiary of BlackRock. Ogunlesi's net worth has increased to $2.3 billion, solidifying his status as one of Africa's wealthiest individuals. His recent deals, including a $12.5 billion partnership with BlackRock, have contributed to this rise.
