Newsom sues DOGE, protesting AmeriCorps program dismantling

California Governor Gavin Newsom is suing the federal government, DOGE, over its decision to dismantle the AmeriCorps program, citing the cuts as harmful to volunteers. The lawsuit follows AmeriCorps' announcement that volunteers would be exiting the program early due to new operational parameters. Newsom stated that California would also accelerate recruitment for its own California Service Corps program in response. AmeriCorps, which provides volunteers for disaster relief and community service, has been active in numerous events, including recent wildfires. The program celebrated its 30th anniversary last year.
