New York passes law to protect minors from algorithmic social media feeds

New York will ban algorithmic feeds and nighttime alerts for minors on social media starting January 25, 2027. The SAFE for Kids Act requires platforms to offer chronological feeds or other non-algorithmic content sequences to users under 18, with parental consent for exceptions. Age verification for adults accessing restricted features is also mandated. The law aims to protect children's mental health and allows for civil penalties against non-compliant social media companies.
