New York City high school basketball teams forfeit games over new roster deadline
Over 70 high school basketball teams in New York City forfeited their first games due to a new roster deadline of November 18. This rule was introduced after a cheating scandal last year involving age and eligibility issues. In response to the backlash, the Public School Athletic League is reinstating some games for teams that submitted their rosters shortly after the deadline. Previously, teams had until a week before their first games to upload rosters. Coaches expressed frustration over the strict enforcement, noting that the new deadline complicates roster management, especially for schools finishing fall sports. Some coaches are also facing financial losses due to the forfeits.
