Ethan Edwards has signed a two-year entry-level contract with the New Jersey Devils, starting in the 2025-26 season. He will also join the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League (AHL) for the rest of the current season. The announcement was made by the team's General Manager, Tom Fitzgerald. The 22-year-old defenseman recently completed his senior year at the University of Michigan. He had an impressive season, scoring 21 points with 5 goals and 16 assists in 36 games, marking his highest total in college. This performance made him the top-scoring defenseman on the Michigan team. During his college career, Edwards played 130 games, scoring a total of 56 points with 15 goals and 41 assists. He served as an alternate captain last season and contributed to Michigan’s Big Ten Championship victories in 2021-22 and 2022-23. Edwards also earned Big Ten All-Academic honors in the last two years. Edwards was born in Grande Prairie, Alberta, and was drafted by the Devils in the fourth round of the 2020 NHL Draft. Before college, he played in the United States Hockey League for Sioux City, where he led all defensemen with 27 points. At Michigan, Edwards shared the ice with current Devils' defenseman Luke Hughes and Seamus Casey, who was drafted by New Jersey in 2022.
