A new blood test screening for over 50 cancers shows a 62% accuracy rate in detecting the disease, according to a study. The Galleri test identifies DNA shed by cancer cells, and in a U.S. trial, it correctly ruled out cancer in 99.6% of healthy individuals while pinpointing cancer origin in 92% of positive cases. The test detected over seven times more cancers than existing screening programs, with over half of detected cancers being early-stage, though some experts caution more data on mortality reduction is needed.
