New AirPods Pro may feature infrared cameras

Apple is reportedly working on a new version of AirPods Pro that may include small infrared cameras. These cameras are expected to enhance audio and health monitoring features. The information comes from Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, who suggests that the cameras will work with other Apple devices and are part of the company's future plans for artificial intelligence. The idea of adding cameras to AirPods is not new. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo mentioned last year that Apple could start mass-producing redesigned AirPods with infrared cameras by 2026. He also noted that these new AirPods could improve the audio experience when used alongside the Vision Pro headset. Kuo explained that if a user watches a video with the Vision Pro while wearing the new AirPods, the sound could adjust based on the direction the user is looking. This would create a more immersive audio experience. Additionally, the infrared cameras might allow for gesture controls, enabling users to interact with devices using hand movements. If everything goes according to plan, the redesigned AirPods could be available by 2026 or 2027. Gurman also mentioned that Apple is considering adding cameras to future Apple Watch models, potentially by 2027. He predicts that a new Apple Watch series may feature a camera next to the Digital Crown for the Watch Ultra variant, aiming to enhance the Visual Intelligence feature introduced on newer iPhones.
