Netflix anime The Summer Hikaru Died premieres July 2025

Netflix has released a new trailer for its upcoming anime, The Summer Hikaru Died. This supernatural horror series is based on the award-winning manga by Mokumokuren. It will debut in July 2025 as part of the Summer 2025 line-up. The anime was first announced in May 2024. It has quickly gained attention for its impressive animation and captivating story. The original manga started on August 31, 2021, and continues to be popular, winning several awards, including a prize at the Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Awards in 2022. Cygames Pictures, known for creating anime based on video games, is producing the series. Some of their other works include Uma Musume and Princess Connect! Re: Dive. The Summer Hikaru Died will stream weekly on Netflix after its broadcast in Japan. The plot centers on two best friends, Yoshiki and Hikaru, who live in a small village. One day, Hikaru goes missing, only to return a week later. However, Yoshiki realizes that the boy who came back is not Hikaru but a strange creature. As Yoshiki struggles with the loss of his friend, strange events begin to disturb the village’s peace. The trailer hints at these dark themes and features the ending song, “you are my monster,” by TOOBOE.
