Netflix adds HDR10+ support for streaming services
Netflix is expanding its streaming options by adding HDR10+ support. This new format will be available alongside the current HDR10 and Dolby Vision options for viewers. HDR10+ aims to improve the picture quality, especially for Netflix's darker shows, by enhancing visual details frame by frame. The streaming service is using the AV1 codec to enable this upgrade. AV1, released in 2018, helps deliver high-quality 4K video while using less data. Netflix initially adopted AV1 to aid mobile users but now finds it effective for all HDR content. Currently, HDR10+ is being rolled out for some popular titles. Netflix plans to make all HDR content available in this format over time. Anyone with a Netflix Premium subscription and a compatible device can enjoy these improvements. High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology has become essential for modern TV and movie viewing, emphasizing the contrast between light and dark areas of an image. Netflix introduced HDR in 2016 with the show Marco Polo and has since supported Dolby Vision and HDR10. For viewers who already have a TV supporting Dolby Vision, the difference may not be noticeable. However, those with only HDR10+ will likely see an enhancement in their viewing experience.
