Neoen launches first stage of Australia's largest battery project in Western Australia
Neoen has officially launched the first stage of Australia's largest battery project in Collie, Western Australia, ahead of schedule. This 219 MW, 877 MWh battery will store excess rooftop solar energy for use during peak evening hours. The Collie battery is part of a larger plan to create a 560 MW, 2,240 MWh installation by the end of next year. It aims to support the transition away from coal power, as the last coal generators in the area are set to close by 2030. Neoen's project is one of several large battery initiatives in Western Australia, which also includes a 500 MW battery being built by state-owned Synergy. These developments are part of the state's shift towards renewable energy sources.
