Nehru evicted from Puducherry Assembly after argument
Independent legislator Nehru, also known as Kuppusamy, was evicted from the Puducherry Assembly on March 25, 2025. The incident occurred after he argued with Speaker R. Selvam about the heads of the Legislative Committees. The conflict began when Chief Minister N. Rangasamy announced the formation of these committees. Mr. Nehru asked the Speaker to clarify who would chair each committee. The Speaker responded that the current chairs would remain in their positions. Feeling unsatisfied with this answer, Mr. Nehru pressed for specific names of the chairpersons. The Speaker repeated his earlier stance, leading to a heated exchange between them. After several minutes of noise, the Speaker ordered marshals to remove Mr. Nehru from the Assembly. Later, Chief Minister Rangasamy requested that Mr. Nehru be allowed to return. He was reinstated for the session. Mr. Nehru had previously served as Chairman of the Committee of Government Assurances but was removed from this position in October 2024. The Assembly later appointed AINRC legislator R. Baskar Datchanamourtty to take his place.
