Negotiations for the next phase of the Gaza ceasefire began in Cairo, Egypt, involving Israel, Hamas, and mediators from Qatar and the U.S. This phase aims to end the war and address the return of hostages and Israeli troop withdrawal. Hamas released the remains of four hostages in exchange for over 600 Palestinian prisoners, marking the last planned swap of the ceasefire's first phase. Israel's military stated it would not withdraw from a key corridor in Gaza, complicating negotiations. The ceasefire, which ended 15 months of conflict, is at risk as Israel's Prime Minister insists on dismantling Hamas. The ongoing situation has resulted in significant casualties and displacement in Gaza, with over 48,000 Palestinians reported dead.
