Nearly 50% of depression patients resist standard treatments
A recent study has found that nearly half of people with depression do not respond to standard treatments. This condition, known as treatment-resistant depression (TRD), leaves many individuals struggling for effective solutions. Researchers stress that improvements in treatment options are urgently needed. Depression is a serious mood disorder that can affect daily life, leading to feelings of sadness and loss of interest. It can also increase the risk of suicide. Medical experts highlight that current treatments often fail, leading to a sense of hopelessness among patients. Kiranpreet Gill, a researcher involved in the study, emphasized that many patients are not benefiting from available medications. She called for more awareness and better management of treatment-resistant depression in clinical practice. Patients often experience side effects without improvement, making the need for new approaches critical.
