"Ne Zha" franchise surpasses 20 billion yuan in earnings
The "Ne Zha" animated film franchise has made history in the Chinese film industry. It has now earned over 20 billion yuan, which is about 2.79 billion U.S. dollars. This total includes the latest release, "Ne Zha 2," which has earned more than 15.3 billion yuan since its debut. The first movie in the series, released in 2019, also contributed significantly to this success, bringing in 5.035 billion yuan. These impressive earnings have made director Yang Yu the first filmmaker in China to oversee a franchise that has crossed 20 billion yuan. "Ne Zha 2" has extended its screening in mainland China until April 30. The film is also gaining international success. It currently ranks fifth on the global box office chart, which includes pre-sales and earnings from overseas. Released on January 29 during the Chinese New Year, "Ne Zha 2" quickly rose to become the highest-grossing animated movie ever, reaching the top of China’s all-time box office chart just nine days after its release.
