NCB seizes ₹50 crore MD from illegal lab in Mahad
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has seized 46.8 kg of MD, a synthetic drug, worth ₹50 crore. The agency arrested R Shegde, a chemistry post-graduate, who allegedly managed an illegal lab in Mahad, Raigad, where the drug was produced. On March 22, NCB agents intercepted Shegde and another suspect in Bhandup. After questioning, they discovered the MD hidden in a plastic container at the residence of one of the accused. Following this, officials raided the laboratory, uncovering various equipment used for drug production. This operation was part of a covert investigation lasting two years. Shegde is suspected of being an expert in synthetic narcotics. He had previously been arrested under drug-related charges and faced ongoing investigations for money laundering involving his assets. NCB officials are now pursuing additional suspects connected to this drug syndicate. This incident follows a major bust last month, where the NCB seized drugs worth ₹200 crore, including cocaine and cannabis products, and arrested several individuals involved.
