Navy veteran sentenced to time served after being cleared of conspiracy charges in Capitol attack case
A retired Navy intelligence officer, Thomas Caldwell, has been sentenced to time served after being cleared of serious charges related to the January 6 Capitol attack. He was acquitted of seditious conspiracy and two other conspiracy offenses. Caldwell was found guilty of one count, which was later dismissed due to a Supreme Court ruling. Prosecutors had sought four years in prison for him, citing his involvement in planning with the Oath Keepers, but he did not enter the Capitol. Caldwell spent over 50 days in jail following his arrest in 2021. His attorney argued for leniency due to his military service and health issues, leading to the decision of no additional jail time.
