NASA's Europa Clipper probe deploys science instruments on journey to Jupiter

NASA's Europa Clipper mission has deployed its magnetometer's boom and radar antennas as it travels to Jupiter. Launched on October 14, the spacecraft is 13 million miles from Earth and moving at 22 miles per second. The magnetometer will measure Europa's magnetic field to confirm the presence of a subsurface ocean. The radar instrument includes four long antennas that will help gather data about the moon's icy crust. The spacecraft has successfully operated so far, with more instrument tests planned for December and January. Europa Clipper is set to arrive at Jupiter in 2030 and will conduct 49 flybys starting in 2031.
