Nagapattinam hosts district competitions for government school students
A district-level competition for government school students took place in Nagapattinam on Wednesday. This event was part of the district's Annual 'House Day' celebration. The competitions included sports, science, theatre, and entrepreneurship. Before the competition, students participated in workshops led by professionals from various fields. These workshops were held last month and aimed to provide students with practical skills and mentorship. They included guidance from theatre groups, NGOs focused on entrepreneurship, and robotics firms. Six competitions were held, including Theatre, Shark Tank (entrepreneurship), Kho-Kho (a traditional Indian sport), Art from Waste, Robotics, and Word Power. This event was organized under the District Education and Empowerment Programme (DEEP), a collaboration between the district administration and the School Education Department. Schools in the district use a 'House System' to group students into four houses. This system promotes healthy competition and the overall development of students. The Annual House Day is the highlight of these activities, where top performers from each house compete at the district level. In the Shark Tank event, students proposed creative solutions to everyday problems. One innovative idea was a gas leak detection device created by students from Panchayat Union Middle School. Another group designed a tablet powder maker from Mohanur Panchayat Union Middle School. The STEM exhibition featured robotic projects that addressed daily and environmental challenges. Ten teams showed their work, including a notable egg-hatching machine that controlled heat and light to mimic incubation. More than 450 students from all six blocks of the district took part in the event hosted at the Arifa Institute of Technology.
