NAB closes BRT corruption case against Khattak and Shah
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in Peshawar has closed its case against several prominent figures linked to the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. This includes advisor to the Prime Minister, Pervez Khattak, and current Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah. NAB made the decision after a detailed review during an Executive Board Meeting. Although the cases against Khattak and others have been closed, some investigations will continue against other individuals connected to the project. In its notification, NAB listed the names of those no longer under investigation, including former Chief Secretary Abid Saeed and several contractors involved in the BRT project. It also specified individuals for whom there was no significant evidence of wrongdoing. However, NAB has referred some cases to the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) for further examination. This includes cases against Ahsan Rafiq and Mamoon Ur Rasheed due to their involvement in financial guarantees that violated SECP regulations. Investigations are still ongoing for certain other individuals concerning irregularities in how consultancy contracts were awarded and issues with excessive payments made to a contractor beyond agreed limits.
