Myki ticketing system upgrade faces challenges as Conduent considers contract exit
The upgrade of Victoria's myki ticketing system is facing challenges as US-based Conduent reportedly considers walking away from its $1.7 billion contract. The company is in a legal dispute with the Victorian government over additional costs and technical requirements. Despite concerns, the government maintains that the upgrade is on track. A small regional trial for new payment options is set to begin soon. However, the Public Transport Users Association warns that delays could hinder the introduction of mobile and credit card payments. Opposition leader John Pesutto claims that any setbacks will increase costs and extend the timeline for the project. The Department of Transport has stated that new myki devices are being tested and ordered for installation once testing is complete.
