Myanmar police arrest DJ for blasphemy over Buddhist chants in music

A popular DJ in Myanmar, known as DJ Violet, has been arrested on suspicion of blasphemy for playing music incorporating Buddhist chants in a nightclub. The DJ, identified as Khin Thwe Thwe Mon, was detained at her home in Yangon on September 11. The charges stem from a performance in July where she allegedly used parts of Buddhist scriptures in her music. The incident has sparked criticism on social media in the predominantly Buddhist nation. The nightclub where the music was played has also been shut down, and eight employees were detained.
