Multiple shootings investigated in Downtown Jackson after parade

Police are investigating several potential shootings in Downtown Jackson. The incidents occurred on Saturday night after the Hal's St. Paddy's Day Parade ended. A fire department worker confirmed a shooting near the intersection of Capitol Street and West Street. The victim was hit by a small-caliber bullet but is expected to survive. An ambulance could not reach the scene due to large crowds, so the victim was taken to the hospital by car. Jackson Police Department's Public Information Officer, Tommie Brown, mentioned there were two reported incidents in the area. One involved Pascagoula Street, and another involved Pearl and Lamar Street. Brown could not confirm if these incidents included shootings. Bailey Martin, from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, stated that Capitol Police responded to the incident on Pearl and Lamar streets, where multiple people were injured in an alleged shooting. The investigation is ongoing, and more details may come later. This is the second time in three years that a shooting has happened around the time of the Hal's St. Paddy's Day Parade. In 2023, two people were shot and killed during a domestic dispute near the parade location.
