Motta criticizes Brazil government for delaying mandatory amendment payments

g1.globo.com (Portuguese)

The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta, expressed strong dissatisfaction to the Minister of Institutional Relations, Gleisi Hoffmann, regarding delayed payments of mandatory amendments. This is due to the government's slow release of funds. Motta warned the government faces difficulties in passing any measures in the Chamber, including tax increase proposals. Only R$56.8 million of the R$25 billion in mandatory amendments for the year have been committed, with only R$824,000 paid. The delay in payments is expected to hinder approval of a provisional measure related to the suspension of the Financial Operations Tax increase. Leaders are also questioning the government's failure to fulfill commitments from late 2023.
