Mother charged with murdering son in California hotel

A mother in California has been charged with murder after allegedly killing her 11-year-old son in a hotel room. Saritha Ramaraju, 48, is accused of slitting her son's throat with a large kitchen knife. This tragic event occurred during a visit to Disneyland, which was meant to be a fun trip for the family. Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer expressed his shock at the incident, emphasizing that children should feel safe with their parents. He described the act as a cruel betrayal of parental love. Ramaraju was reportedly staying at the La Quinta Inn and Suites in Santa Ana during a three-day custody visit with her son. On the day of the incident, March 19, Ramaraju called 911 to report the killing and mentioned that she had taken pills in an attempt to harm herself. When police arrived, they found her son unresponsive in a nearby room, already deceased from stab wounds. Ramaraju was initially taken to the hospital after consuming an unknown substance. Authorities suggest that tensions between the boy’s parents may have contributed to this tragic incident. Ramaraju was released from the hospital and subsequently charged with murder and using a deadly weapon. If convicted, she faces a potential sentence of 26 years to life in prison.
