Mother charged with manslaughter after fatal DUI crash
A mother in Napa, California, has been charged after a tragic crash that killed her two children. Yesica Barajas, 31, faces serious charges, including two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence. The accident happened on March 16 when Barajas allegedly drove while intoxicated. Prosecutors say she was under the influence of both alcohol and drugs. Her vehicle, a 2006 Nissan, crashed into a tree after veering off an exit ramp on Highway 29. Tragically, Barajas's two children, nine-year-old Aaliyah and ten-year-old Damien Montanez, did not survive the crash. A GoFundMe page set up for their funerals has raised nearly $50,000. The page describes the children as loving and full of life, highlighting their joyful memories with family. Barajas survived the crash but suffered significant injuries. She is currently recovering and has been booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections. Her bail has been set at $1.5 million and will be reviewed at her next court date on March 21.
