Bowen was observed eating pasta in the front row during a mass at an Italian festival in Sydney. The priest leading the mass, Reverend Anthony Fregolent, stated Bowen should have shown more respect. Bowen's spokesperson claimed he was unaware the mass was still in progress when he arrived. Bowen later posted photos of himself at the festival on social media.
