Microsoft urges Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11
Microsoft is reminding Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11 as support for the older operating system will end on October 14, 2025. After this date, Microsoft will not provide free software updates, technical assistance, or security fixes for Windows 10. In their email to users, Microsoft explained that while PCs running Windows 10 will continue to function, they will no longer receive support. Users who cannot upgrade to Windows 11 will have to use an unsupported system. The email included FAQs and links for users to check if their devices are compatible with Windows 11. For those who choose to remain on Windows 10, Microsoft recommends backing up files using OneDrive. Additionally, users can pay a fee of $30 to receive one more year of security updates for Windows 10. Many older PCs, particularly those made before 2018, do not have the required TPM 2.0 module to run Windows 11. A nonprofit group estimates that nearly one billion computers may be affected when support ends. Currently, Windows 10 holds a 58% market share, while Windows 11 represents about 38%.
