Micron showcases world's fastest SSD at DesignCon 2025

techradar.com

Micron has introduced a prototype SSD using PCIe 6.x technology, achieving a record sequential read speed of 27GB/s. This speed nearly doubles that of the fastest PCIe 5.0 SSDs currently available. The SSD was demonstrated at DesignCon 2025, utilizing Astera Labs' Scorpio P-Series Fabric Switch to enhance performance. This setup allows for direct data transfer between the SSD and NVIDIA GPUs, improving processing efficiency. Despite the impressive speed, the PCIe 6.x ecosystem is not yet ready for widespread use. Full deployment will require compatible CPUs, GPUs, and network interfaces, which are still being developed.
