Mexican teachers' union urges end to CNTE violence
The National Union of Education Workers (SNTE) is calling for authorities to end violent acts by minority groups linked to the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) against public institutions and educational staff. SNTE's Section IX leader, Ulises Chávez Tenorio, reported CNTE members vandalized the Preschool Education Coordination offices of the Public Education Secretariat (SEP) on July 4, attacking workers and damaging facilities. The SNTE demands the government restore the rule of law. The CNTE's actions, including property damage and employee intimidation, stem from salary disputes over deductions imposed on teachers who participated in protests. The SNTE contrasts this violence with the dedication of teachers committed to public education.
