Memphis guard Tyrese Hunter out for NCAA opener
Memphis guard Tyrese Hunter is out for the NCAA Tournament opener against Colorado State. He is still recovering from a left foot injury he sustained during the AAC tournament. Head coach Penny Hardaway stated that he had no update on Hunter's condition. However, Hunter confirmed to reporters before practice that he would not play and was seen on the bench wearing a walking boot. Hunter did not participate in Memphis' championship victory over UAB due to his injury. This is his second absence this season, having also missed a game in February. He has been a consistent player, averaging 13.4 points per game and starting almost every game until now. In addition, guard Dante Harris has not played since March 4 because of an ankle injury. Hardaway reported that Harris began running again but was still sidelined during practice. With uncertainties about their backcourt, Memphis will need to adjust their strategy. Colorado State's coach, Niko Medved, believes that not knowing the exact lineup does not significantly affect their game plan, as Hardaway is skilled at preparing his team.
