Medals of World War II airman Donald Bunce go up for auction in London
The medals of Chief Petty Officer Donald Bunce, a World War II airman, are being auctioned for £100,000. Bunce earned the Conspicuous Gallantry Medal for his bravery during a dangerous mission over the English Channel in 1942. Bunce was part of a crew that attacked German ships while facing heavy enemy fire. His aircraft was shot down, but he continued to fight until he was rescued from the sea. Only five of the 18 aircrew survived the mission. The auction will take place on January 15 in London. Bunce's medal collection includes several honors from his service during the war. He passed away in 2008.
