Mayor Bass to officially swear in Jim McDonnell as LAPD chief on Thursday
Mayor Karen Bass will officially swear in Jim McDonnell as the new chief of the Los Angeles Police Department on Thursday. McDonnell, a former L.A. County Sheriff, began his role last week after the City Council approved his nomination. McDonnell aims to tackle recruitment challenges and improve morale within the LAPD. He has committed to not collaborating with federal immigration enforcement, addressing concerns raised by some council members about his past policies. He replaces former chief Michel Moore, who retired in February. McDonnell has extensive experience in law enforcement, having served nearly 30 years with the LAPD before leading the Long Beach Police Department.
