Matteson completes acquisition of Lincoln Mall property for redevelopment plans

chicagotribune.com

Matteson has acquired the final parcel of the Lincoln Mall property for about $108,000, completing its purchase of the 60-acre site. This acquisition allows the village to move forward with plans for a mixed-use development called Market Square Crossing. The mall, which closed in 2015, has remained vacant since the demolition of its last store in 2018. Mayor Sheila Chalmers-Currin stated that the site is now "shovel ready" for development, with plans for recreational facilities, housing, and retail spaces. In 2023, the village established a tax increment financing district to attract developers. The redevelopment plan includes a town center, green spaces, and walking trails, aiming to transform the area into a vibrant community hub.
