Marvel launches new Spider-Girl series featuring Hawaiian hero Maka Akana
Marvel is launching a new Spider-Girl series featuring Makawalu “Maka” Akana, created by Dan Slott and Michael Cho. She first appeared in Spider-Boy #12 as a sidekick to Bullseye and has the power to absorb and replicate abilities. The new series, written by Torunn Grønbekk and illustrated by André Risso, will explore Maka's backstory and her journey to become a hero after Bullseye's betrayal. Spider-Girl #1 is set to be released on June 11. This marks the first ongoing Spider-Girl title since 2010-2011, following previous iterations featuring different characters. The original Spider-Girl, Mayday Parker, had a long run from 1998 to 2006.
