Martin Hancock joins BBC's Casualty after leaving Coronation Street
Martin Hancock, known for his role as Spider Nugent on Coronation Street, is starting a new chapter with a job on the BBC medical drama Casualty. Hancock, 56, has been a familiar face on Coronation Street for 26 years. In his new role, he will portray Samuel Jankowski, a relative of Indie Jankowski, played by Naomi Wakszlak. Indie is a student paramedic on Casualty and has earned a fan following. Hancock's departure from Coronation Street came after his character's relationship with Toyah Battersby ended. Spider left the cobbles due to a conflict between Toyah's feelings about his police work and their future together. Reflecting on his character's exit, Hancock described the split as unfortunate, caused by bad luck and circumstances. He believes there is still love between Spider and Toyah, indicating it may not be the end of their story. When asked about a possible return to Coronation Street, Hancock expressed his willingness to reprise the role, saying he loves the show and would welcome the opportunity to come back.
