Manchester protests saw arrests; police kept groups separate
Rival demonstrations in Manchester city centre, involving "Patriots of Britain" and counter-protesters, resulted in two arrests but no major disorder. The "Patriots of Britain" protested the handling of grooming gang cases, while the counter-protest, "Keep the fascists out of Manchester," accused the group of promoting hatred. Police separated the groups with lines near the Queen Victoria statue. UKIP leader Nick Tenconi spoke at the "Patriots of Britain" event, which also featured Union flags and signs supporting Tommy Robinson. Greater Manchester Police reported a calm atmosphere.
