A 20-year-old man was jailed for nine years for attempting to rape a 12-year-old girl at a funeral wake in Preston in 2022. Kyle Tyson was 17 at the time of the attack. Tyson, formerly of Chorley, denied the offences but was found guilty of attempted rape of a child under 13 and assault in June. The victim said the incident caused severe anxiety and trauma, leading her to stop attending school. At Preston Crown Court on Friday, Tyson received six years custody and three years on extended licence. He must sign the sex offenders register for life and comply with a 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
