Malaria outbreak in Congo confirms 52 fatalities

Health officials in the Democratic Republic of Congo have confirmed that a recent disease outbreak in Equateur province was caused by malaria. This announcement was made by the National Public Health Institute (INSP) on Monday. At the beginning of this year, at least 943 people became ill, and 52 died. People reported symptoms like fever, fatigue, vomiting, and weight loss. In February, health experts thought the outbreak might be due to malaria or food poisoning. Testing on samples has now confirmed that malaria was the cause of the illnesses. Professor Christian Ngandu, who oversees public health operations for the INSP, shared this information by telephone. The health authorities are still waiting for test results on water, drinks, and food samples that were sent abroad to check for possible toxins. It is worth noting that another outbreak of malaria occurred in December of the previous year.
