"Major Thomás" graphic novel features first Latino hyperspace traveler
ComiXology Originals has released a new graphic novel called Major Thomás. This young adult graphic novel follows Thomás Mùnoz, a Mexican-American farmworker who becomes humanity's first hyperspace traveler for NASA. The creative team behind Major Thomás is entirely Latino. It includes writer Omar Morales and artists Serg Acũna and Mau Mora, among others. Morales says the story aims to inspire young Latinx readers to pursue their dreams, no matter the challenges they face. The novel features a foreword by astronaut José M. Hernández. He is a former migrant farmworker who went to space in 2009. Hernández’s own journey has inspired many, and he believes Major Thomás shows that dreams are achievable regardless of one's background or circumstances. In Major Thomás, the protagonist dreams of becoming an astronaut with his best friend, Lisa. He faces personal struggles such as anxiety and imposter syndrome while preparing for his journey into space. After a mishap, he finds himself caught in an intergalactic war filled with challenges, including formidable enemies. The graphic novel is now available and comes with an educator's guide to help teachers use it in the classroom. Major Thomás promises an exciting mix of adventure and important life lessons for readers.
