Magnetic North Pole shifts towards Siberia, prompting navigation updates
The magnetic North Pole has officially shifted, moving from Canada towards Siberia. This change requires updates to navigation systems for ships, airplanes, and other vehicles, including GPS devices. Experts from the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the British Geological Survey have released a new World Magnetic Model, which provides a more accurate location of the magnetic North Pole. This model features a higher resolution, offering over ten times more detail than previous versions. The magnetic North Pole's movement has accelerated in recent years, prompting the need for this update. The new model will be effective for the next five years, with automatic updates for navigation systems.
