Madras High Court extends trial in Sattankulam case

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has given the First Additional District and Sessions Court an extra two months to finish the trial in the Sattankulam custodial deaths case. This case involves the deaths of trader P. Jayaraj and his son J. Benicks. Justice K. Murali Shankar made the decision to extend the trial period on Wednesday. He also dismissed a bail request from Raghu Ganesh, one of the police officers accused in the case. The wife of Jayaraj, Selvarani, and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) both opposed this bail petition. The CBI has charged multiple police personnel in this case. This includes the then inspector S. Sridhar, sub-inspectors P. Raghu Ganesh and K. Balakrishnan, and several constables. One accused, special sub-inspector Pauldurai, sadly passed away after contracting COVID-19.
