Machilipatnam MP requests NDMA aid for sea erosion

Machilipatnam MP Vallabhaneni Balashowry met with NDMA member Rajendra Singh in New Delhi to discuss sea erosion issues at Chinna Gollapalem. The MP expressed concerns about how strong waves have eroded agricultural land in the coastal village. He pointed out that factors like rising sea levels, more tidal waves, and sand mining are worsening the problem. The loss of mangroves, which help protect the area during natural disasters, is also a significant issue. Additionally, increased salt in the soil from seawater intrusion is hurting crop yields. Balashowry proposed solutions to tackle the erosion. He suggested building sea walls, conserving mangroves, creating coastal protection plans, and potentially relocating affected villagers. He also mentioned the need for financial assistance for struggling farmers. The villagers have lost over 1,200 acres of farmland with cashew and casuarina trees over the past 16 years. Rajendra Singh responded positively to the proposals and promised support once they are submitted by the state government.
