tagesschau.de (German)

Hendrik Lünenborg has been elected as the new director (Intendant) of Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) by the broadcasting council. He will succeed Joachim Knuth on September 1st. The 53-year-old Lünenborg, currently director of NDR's Hamburg regional studio, received a clear majority of votes. He previously held positions including program director of NDR 90,3 and head of the Intendancy. The election followed a prior failed attempt to appoint a different candidate. Lünenborg aims to protect NDR's journalistic independence and reach younger audiences, including those with a migration background. He has worked at NDR for over 30 years and studied political science and history.
