Lucknow: King George's Medical University has launched a new artificial eye prosthesis that offers hope to those who have lost an eye. This innovative product is available for patients recovering from accidents, illnesses, or congenital conditions. The artificial eyes are made using advanced technology and provided through the Oculoplastic Clinic after a consultation. They cost just Rs 1,000, making them an affordable option for many. These prostheses not only improve appearance but also contribute to the emotional and psychological health of patients. Made from high-quality polymethyl methacrylate, each prosthesis is custom-fitted. The fitting process begins with an hour of measurement and takes three to four days to complete. Patients will receive follow-up care, including a check-up one week after fitting and quarterly visits in the first year. Prof Apjit Kaur, the head of the ophthalmology department, emphasized the importance of these prostheses beyond looks. She stated, "An artificial eye significantly boosts self-esteem and helps in social reintegration."
