Lorry overturns after hitting bridge in Newton-le-Willows

A road in Newton-le-Willows is closed after a lorry crashed into a bridge. The accident happened on Golborne Dale Road early on Wednesday, March 26. Merseyside Police reported the incident occurred around midnight when the lorry overturned after hitting a railway bridge. Police have advised people to avoid the area as recovery operations are underway. They shared an image of the overturned lorry on social media, noting that the road closure will last for some time. It is currently unclear if anyone was injured in the accident. Traffic management system Inrix confirmed that Warrington Road is closed in both directions due to the recovery work. The closure extends from A580 East Lancashire Road to A572 Newton Road. A police spokesperson said, “There is a road closure on Golborne Dale Road, Newton-le-Willows due to an overturned HGV. Recovery is in progress, however, the closure will be in place for some time so please avoid the area.”
