Long Island priest faces sexual misconduct charges
A Catholic priest in the Diocese of Rockville Centre, already bankrupt due to sex abuse settlements, has been arrested and charged with sexual misconduct. The priest is accused of forcibly touching a woman in the church kitchen. The Rev. John Adjei-Boamah, 43, faces two misdemeanor charges stemming from the alleged incident at St. Catherine of Sienna Roman Catholic Church. The diocese, which settled hundreds of sex abuse claims for $323 million in 2020, confirmed the accusation and said the priest will step away from his duties. The arrest adds to the ongoing scandal within the Long Island diocese, which is one of the largest in the United States. Adjei-Boamah, who immigrated from Ghana, pleaded not guilty and was released with an order of protection for the accuser.
