London Heathrow leads Europe in intercontinental flights

London Heathrow Airport leads European airports in intercontinental flights, with nearly 8,500 departures in April 2025. This hub offers close to 2.5 million seats on flights to destinations outside of Europe. Heathrow's dominance is largely due to British Airways, but many international airlines also operate from the airport. The longest non-stop intercontinental route is to Perth, Australia, served daily by Qantas. New York JFK is the most frequent destination. Other top airports include Istanbul, Paris Charles de Gaulle, and Frankfurt, each with thousands of intercontinental flights. These hubs connect Europe to destinations worldwide, including Asia, North America, and South America.
